Amsterdam, May 2026 – The Lost in Europe Foundation, the international journalistic network dedicated to the plight of unaccompanied minor refugees in Europe, has a new chair. As of this month, Ina Hut takes over from Lucas Hendricks. Ina Hut is the former director of CoMensha, the Dutch Coordination Centre against Human Trafficking.

Lost in Europe was founded by Sanne Terlingen and Geesje van Haren as part of VersPers Publishing House and has been operating as an independent foundation for the past year. Lucas Hendricks played a key role in establishing the organisational and financial structures of this foundation, thereby laying a solid foundation. Building on this foundation, Lost in Europe has grown into an authoritative network of investigative journalists across dozens of European countries, with publications that have had an international impact on policy and awareness regarding missing migrant minors. Hendricks remains involved with the foundation, but is stepping down as chair.

His successor, Ina Hut, brings extensive experience at the intersection of human rights, migration and international cooperation. As director of CoMensha, she was responsible for many years for coordinating the response to human trafficking in the Netherlands. In that role, she worked closely with government bodies, law enforcement agencies and civil society organisations, and was committed to improving the protection and registration of victims, including vulnerable minors.

“Ina Hut brings exactly the expertise and network needed to take Lost in Europe to the next stage,” says Lucas Hendricks. “We have laid a solid foundation; it is now time to build on that and increase our impact.”

Ina Hut: “Lost in Europe plays a crucial role in bringing to light an often overlooked problem. Investigative journalism is essential to hold those responsible to account and drive change. I look forward to working with the network to continue and strengthen this mission.”

The Lost in Europe Foundation will continue to focus on cross-border investigative journalism in the coming period, with a special focus on the position and protection of unaccompanied minor refugees in Europe.
