'On my 18th birthday there were fireworks, as my birthday is January 1. I celebrated with friends, but didn't tell them that it was my birthday too. I don't understand why people put so much value on celebrating a birthday. My last guardian did prepare me well for when I turned 18. He taught me many things.
Now, a few months after my birthday, I have already made great strides. I have now found my own apartment with a good friend. Also, my parents have come to the Netherlands. That was difficult for a while. But i'm also happy to have them back. I missed them. I especially missed having parents, because you have to do a lot yourself. In the beginning I could have used their help, or their advice. I'm glad they're here now.'
