After Russia invaded Ukraine, many human rights organizations warned of the risk of people being trafficked to flee the country, especially unaccompanied children. And just as the organizations predicted, investigative journalists from Lost in Europe found that 1.5 million children who fled Ukraine during the first month of the war were not properly vetted or registered. Only four European countries recorded how many unaccompanied children entered the country. Another eight countries provided journalists with insufficient or no data or did not track the movement of minors. Compared to other EU countries, the Czechia is doing well in this regard.
