Since 2024, children in the French youth care system have, in principle, no longer been allowed to be accommodated in hotels. Yet this still happens, resulting in unsafe situations. At the end of July, 47 unaccompanied refugee minors had to be evacuated from a hotel in Mulhouse after part of the ceiling collapsed.

In Mulhouse, a city in eastern France, 47 unaccompanied refugee minors were evacuated from the Hôtel de Bâle last summer. Part of the ceiling had collapsed and, due to the risk of further collapse, the entire building was evacuated. The young people had been accommodated there by la Fondation du Diaconat, a large private care foundation which focuses on healthcare and social services in eastern France.
